SWC Says UN General Assembly Resolution Ignores History, Legality & Israeli Security

September 18, 2024

A few hours ago, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for Israel to unilaterally withdraw from the West Bank & East Jerusalem, without making a single parallel demand of the Palestinian Authority to end its practices of incitement or its continued calls to destroy the State of Israel.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, SWC Associate Dean and Global Social Action Director stated,

“This one-sided and unjust resolution ignores all of the history that pre-dated the 1967 war, a war launched upon Israel with full support of the PLO for the express purpose of destroying the world’s only Jewish state; as well as Israel’s reasonable concerns to not exchange territory without legitimate security guarantees.  This resolution makes no parallel demand of the Palestinian Authority to stop incitement in its media & schools calling for Israel to be destroyed.  Further, today’s resolution, like many before it, treats East Jerusalem as “Palestinian Territory” despite the fact that East Jerusalem was Jordanian, not Palestinian, from 1948-1967 and that Jordanian control was itself acquired through force.  This resolution will not promote peace; it rewards attempts to destroy Israel incrementally by denying it defensible borders and reasonable security guarantees.”
