In a letter to Argentine Football Association (AFA) Disciplinary Court President, Fernando Mitjans, the Simon Wiesenthal Center urged the Court to take measures against the fans of Atlanta Football Club due to their racist chants against Chacarita Juniors.
According to reports to the Wiesenthal Center from Chacarita fans, their rival’s supporters attacked them with racist chants, calling them “Bolivians who belong to shantytowns go back home” (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=onkmO3oxvMQ). These incidents have already triggered the intervention of the Argentine National Institute Against Discrimination (INADI).
“Once again we sound an alarm about a racist incident in football. Hate in sport must be penalized regardless the target in Europe, Latin America or wherever, hate speech must receive a ‘red card’. We will persist with our Center’s initiative ’11 Points Against Racism in Football’, already welcomed by several football federations and governmental  authorities”, stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center.
In 2012, the Wiesenthal Center called on AFA to penalize Chacarita Juniors due to antisemitic chants from some of its terraces (http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=7929811&ct=11661353#.UjDswNLgfZI). As a result, Chacarita lost points and the Center received reports from club supporters that they too were targets of racist chants by Atlanta fans.
“If provided evidence, we promised to call for Atlanta to be similarly penalized. We are honoring that commitment, and hope that in future matches between Chacarita Juniors and Atlanta both will receive cheers of respect rather than chants of hate”, added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.
“We are certain that AFA will be consistent in containing all forms of incitement,” concluded the Center’s officials.

Cánticos racistas en partido entre Chacarita Juniors y Atlanta: “Las manifestaciones de odio en el deporte deben ser penalizadas, con independencia de los destinatarios”

En una carta al Presidente del Tribunal de Disciplina de la Asociación del Fútbol Argentino, Fernando Mitjans, el Centro Simon Wiesenthal solicitó que considerara sanciones contra el club Atlanta en relación con los cánticos racistas por parte de sus simpatizantes durante el partido contra Chacarita Juniors.
De acuerdo a materiales remitidos al Centro Wiesenthal por parte de simpatizantes de Chacarita, sus rivales les dirigieron cánticos discriminatorios llamándolos “bolivianos” que “tienen que vivir en la villa” y a quienes les dicen: “ándate a vivir a Bolivia, toda tu familia está allá” (ver http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=onkmO3oxvMQ). Estos incidentes ya provocaron también la intervención del Instituto Nacional contra la Discriminación (INADI).
“Una vez más llamamos la atención acerca de un episodio de racismo en el ámbito del fútbol. Las manifestaciones de odio en el deporte deben ser penalizadas, con independencia de los destinatarios; sea en Europa, en Latinoamérica o en cualquier otro lugar, el discurso de odio merece una ‘tarjeta roja’. Continuaremos la iniciativa de nuestro Centro ’11 Puntos contra el Racismo en el Fútbol’, que ya ha sido bien recibida por federaciones de fútbol y por autoridades gubernamentales”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal.
En 2012, el Centro Simon Wiesenthal reclamó ante la AFA para que impusiera sanciones contra Chacarita Juniors por los cantos antisemitas de algunos de sus simpatizantes (http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=7929811&ct=11661353#.UjDswNLgfZI). A raíz de esa intervención, Chacarita fue sancionado con pérdida de puntos, y el Centro recibió comentarios por parte de otros simpatizantes de ese club diciendo que ellos también solían recibir agresiones racistas por parte de hinchas de Atlanta.
“Dijimos en esa oportunidad que si nos acercaban las pruebas, pediríamos que los responsables de tales ataques fueran sancionados. Hoy cumplimos con nuestro compromiso, y esperamos que en los futuros encuentros entre Chacarita Juniors y Atlanta ambos equipos reciban aplausos respetuosos en lugar de cánticos racistas”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director del Centro para América Latina.
“Confiamos en que la AFA será consistente en su compromiso para contener toda forma de incitación al odio”, concluyeron los directivos del Centro.
