Wiesenthal Centre Commends UNESCO on Holocaust Education and Commemoration Resolution

Dr Samuels's letter reads as follows:

Paris, 25 October 2007

Mr Koïchiro Matsuura
Director-General
UNESCO, Paris

Paris, 25 October 2007

Dear Mr Director-General,

On behalf of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, permit me to congratulate you regarding the UNESCO General Conference resolution on Holocaust education and commemoration.

You alluded to this resolution in your speech last month, at our New York Tolerance Center, in launching the joint UNESCO - Wiesenthal Centre volume, "Antisemitism - The Generic Hatred - Essays in Memory of Simon Wiesenthal".

There, you stressed your personal commitment to disseminating the lessons of the Holocaust and combating contemporary antisemitism.

Our Centre is gratified that, through its many projects together with UNESCO, we have contributed to reaching this historic resolution.

The Centre is ready to continue this cooperation in the implementation of the resolution's objectives under your leadership.

Most respectfully,
Dr Shimon Samuels
Director for International Relations
