Wiesenthal Center Criticizes Refusal of Berlin Prosecutor’s Office to Investigate Obvious Contradiction in Case of Most Wanted Nazi Dr. Aribert Heim

Jerusalem – The Simon Wiesenthal Center today criticized the recent decision of the Berlin Prosecutor’s Office to close their investigation against the lawyers of most wanted Nazi war criminal Dr. Aribert Heim, despite the strong likelihood that they committed perjury in their testimony on his behalf.

In a letter of complaint sent to the Berlin Attorney-General by the Center’s chief Nazi-hunter, Israel director Dr. Efraim Zuroff, the Center pointed to the obvious contradiction between recent reports by ZDF (German Channel 2) and the New York Times supported by the testimony of Heim’s son Ruediger, that he had died in Cairo in August 1992 and the claims by his lawyers in a Berlin court in 2001 that they were in regular contact with him.

According to Zuroff: “The obvious contradiction between the lawyer’s testimony and the recent findings clearly emphasize the lack of clarity regarding the fate of the world’s Most Wanted Nazi war criminal on the one hand and the integrity of Heim’s lawyers on the other, both of which should obviously be of concern to the judicial authorities in Berlin.”
