WIESENTHAL CENTER COMMENDS FRANCE FOR PROTESTING AHMADINEJAD’S LATEST ANTI-ISRAEL TIRADE

The Simon Wiesenthal Center commended the French government for its formal protest of the latest anti-Israel tirade by Iranian President Ahmadinejad when he labeled Israel “a filthy Zionist entity” whose days are numbered. France summoned Iran’s ambassador in Paris, Ali Ahani, to state their complaint.

“We applaud the French government's decision to call in the Iranian ambassador over the Iranian leader’s continued threats against the Jewish state,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean and founder of the Jewish human rights organization. “It is time for other nations with diplomatic ties to Iran to signal Tehran that anti-Semitism as statecraft is unacceptable and will have consequences in the international arena. We applaud the new proactive steps in this area taken by President Sarkozy and Foreign Minister Kouchner,” Hier concluded.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, and the Council of Europe.
