BAR RE-ENTRY OF ‘SHEIK OF TERROR’ INTO THE UK

The popular Qatar-based Sheik has called suicide bombings heroic operations of martyrdom and his sermons and fatwas have called for the killing of Jews. His scheduled attendance at an August 7, 2005 conference in Manchester has been confirmed by The Ramadhan Foundation.

Please send an urgent message to Prime Minister Tony Blair asking him to immediately bar the re-entry of Sheik Yussuf Al Qaradawi into the UK.

Last year, in July 2004, the Wiesenthal Center immediately condemned the hosting of Qaradawi by London Mayor Ken Livingstone saying that his presence at a London conference would "only encourage more terrorism."

One infamous 2002 fatwa issued by Qaradawi said in part, "Suicide actions are the most exalted aspect of the Jihad for the Sake of Allah" and that "...women are required to engage in such a jihad side by side with their men."

This same fatwa has been re-published by the Hamas terrorist group to legitimize their campaign of suicide bombings in Israel. Qaradawi has been banned from entering the United States for reportedly advocating child suicide bombers in the Middle East.

Wiesenthal Center officials Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper have written directly to Prime Minister Blair urging him to bar the Sheik from re-entering the UK. Additionally, they praised the Prime Minister for his leadership in the wake of the London bombings and for his encouraging of all citizens to reject the ‘culture of death’ that many Muslim youth have embraced.

Buoyed by the announcement by UK Sunni leaders for their "unequivocal condemnation of all suicide bombing," Center officials also urged Blair to support their international campaign to declare suicide bombings as ‘Crimes Against Humanity’.
