SWC: Standing Up To Iran’s Threat

As Iranian President Ahmadinejad once again used the United Nations to rant against Israel and the United States yesterday, the Simon Wiesenthal Center convened a simultaneous press conference to urge the world to ratchet up sanctions to weaken the soon-to-be nuclear Iranian regime and to provide a platform for authentic voices of the Iranian people seeking a truly democratic future for their country.

A campaigner for Iranian children’s rights, a former student leader, an activist who recently smuggled himself back into Iran to participate in anti-regime protests, and an award-winning journalist, documentarian, and expert on modern Iranian culture and politics joined SWC Associate Dean Rabbi Cooper to share their experiences.

Today, in New York, the Center co-sponsored the "Stand for Freedom in Iran" rally held in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, directly across the street from the UN. And, in Los Ageles, the Wiesenthal Center is also a co-sponsor of a Los Angeles press conference to be held at City Hall where elected officials will call for further sanctions against the Iranian regime.
