SWC Applauds Condemnation of Terrorism Issued at Meeting of South American and Arab Foreign Ministers

The Simon Wiesenthal Center praised a condemnation of terrorism issued during the Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of South American and Arab Countries (held in Buenos Aires February 20-21, 2008). On the eve of the meeting, Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center) and Sergio Widder (Latin American Representative) had written to Argentine Foreign Affairs Minister Jorge Taiana urging him to launch such a statement.

Samuels noted: “this Declaration is a contribution to the global effort against terrorism, and strengthens Argentina’s leadership against this scourge”.

Nonetheless, the Center lamented the Buenos Aires Declaration bias towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“To focus all criticism exclusively against Israel ignores the continuing terrorism of Hamas that deliberately obstructs the current efforts for peace”, concluded Widder.

Samuels and Widder are currently in Jerusalem for the Global Forum Against Antisemitism.
