“OUTRAGEOUS,” SAYS SWC DEAN ON CARTER’S POSSIBLE VISIT WITH HAMAS LEADER

Says former President not an honest broker for Mideast peace

Reacting to a report from Arab newspaper, Al-Hayat, that former President, Jimmy Carter, will meet with Hamas terrorist leader, Khaled Mashaal, Marvin Hier, Founder and Dean of The Simon Wiesenthal Center said, “If this report is true, it confirms what we’ve known about Jimmy Carter for a long time – that he is not an honest broker when it comes to Mid-East peace. It is outrageous that a former President of the United States would bestow such legitimacy on the leader of Hamas, a group that the United States, the European Union and others consider a terrorist organization. It is utter nonsense that this will further the peace process – what it will do is reward the Hamas leadership for their terror tactics and suicide attacks and justify their policies to their constituents as the only way of dealing with the United States and Israel.”

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, and the Council of Europe.
