During the day, the phenomenon of Nazi marches that take place annually in the streets of Europe was studied in depth. Another issue was how to use social network to promote awareness of the Holocaust, in an era in which they have become platforms for spreading hate. Detailed analyzes of the particular situation of antisemitism in Spain, the Netherlands, Norway and the Czech Republic were also shown.
The special participation during the day took place when the fight against antisemitism in sport was exposed.
“We highlighted the long time experience of our institution in this field. From the creation of the rule by which the referees must suspend a sports match in the face of antisemitic chants till the creation, together with the Argentine Professional Football League, of the Simon Wiesenthal Award for the team, player or coaching staff that best embodies the values of coexistence in diversity. We also highlight the acceptance by the River Plate Club of the 11-Points Program against Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination of the Wiesenthal Center, and the adoption of the Definition of antisemitism by the Argentinian Soccer Association and 7 of the First Division Clubs and the beginning of the of joint work with CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation),” said Dr. Gelblung.
