Buenos Aires - Notorious anti-Semite and anti-Israel musician Roger Waters will be touring Latin America between October and December where he will perform in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is launching a campaign to create awareness by sharing the following image (left) created by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, on social media.
Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Director for Latin America declared: "The Center’s campaign will take action against producers and stadiums who rent their venues to spread Rogers’ anti-Semitic message, just as several other institutions in the world are also doing. Once again, Rogers uses music as an excuse to sow his message of hatred in his concerts by using the flying pig inspired by anti-Semitic imagery that circulated in Central Europe during the Middle Ages, known as judensau or judenschwein - German for Jewish Pig (image right). With these caricatures, Jews were denigrated and humiliated and bloodily persecuted in many parts of Europe.”
Gelblung continued, “In his newest show, Waters dresses as an SS officer and adds the comparison between Anne Frank, (the Jewish teenager who hid from the Nazis and died in a concentration camp) with Al Jazeera war journalist Shireen Abu Akleh (who was killed in an exchange of bullets) with the only purpose of equating the Nazis with the Israelis who defend their civilian population.”
“Since Waters’ last visit to Latin America, laws have changed and awareness of the need to prevent hate speech has been raised. We do not mean to censor him, but rather to prevent Waters from hijacking the music to distill his poison,” Gelblung concluded.
