UN Human Rights Chief Endorses 'GOLDSTONE' Recommendations

Geneva - UN Human Rights Council

  • Today, at its two-day Special Session on the ‘Goldstone Report', UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay strongly endorsed a 5-page resolution supporting the anti-Israel recommendations.

  • The United Kingdom became the first Western country with voting rights on the UN Human Rights Council to state unequivocally in a strong speech that it would not endorse the ‘Goldstone Report’ or the related draft resolution.
 

New York - UN Security Council

Mark Weitzman, SWC Chief UN Representative, delivered live updates via Twitter from the gallery of the UN Security Council in New Yorkwhere he reported that the Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister said, "The [Goldstone] Report is another damning indictment of Israel ... Israel must be stopped from perpetrating crimes."

Washington DC - US Congress

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), House Foreign Affairs Committee ranking minority member, voiced her strong opposition to the [Goldstone] Report on the floor of Congress where, as part of her remarks, she stated, “And as the leadership of the Simon Wiesenthal Center stated in a recent letter to Ambassador Susan Rice, consideration of this report 'is a prescription for disaster, not only for Israel, but for the United States and every country that fights violent extremism.'”
