Simon Wiesenthal Center Urges Organization of American States (OAS) to Take Measures Against Iranian Military Intervention in Latin America

Acceptance on the part of Venezuela,would add to the recent arrival of Russian military and armament and recreate a support alliance that in Syria, has maintained Assad in power to make war on his own people.

In a letter to OAS Secretary-General,Luis Almagro, Wiesenthal Centre officials, Drs.Shimon Samuels and Ariel Gelblung - respectively Director for International Relations and Representative for Latin America - noted that the Foreign Minister of Iran, Javad Zarif, offered troops of the Revolutionary Guard (just designated a "terrorist organization" by the United States} to protect Nicolas Maduro and prevent the fall of his regime.

Shimon Samuels, pointed to the timing of the Teheran announcement: "a few days after the resumption of flights between Tehran and Caracas, known to be a transport route for arms, terrorists and drug trafficking. This must raise the regional danger level for the entire Western hemisphere and lead to action to prevent Venezuela from becoming a Latin Syria"

"Silence in the face of the Maduro regime, the already existing Cuban presence, the recent arrival of Russian military and, now,the announcement of the Iran offer, is acceptance of foreign interventions across Latin America", emphasized Ariel Gelblung

"The OAS must act to prevent the transplantation of the Middle East in the Americas", concluded the officials

El Centro Wiesenthal Pide a la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) que Adopte Medidas contra la Intervención Militar Iraní en América Latina

En una carta al Secretario General de la OEA, Luis Almagro, los Dres. Shimon Samuels y Ariel Gelblung, Director de Relaciones Internacionales y Representante para América Latina del Centro Wiesenthal respectivamente, destacaron que el Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Irán, Yavad Zarif, ofreció el envío de tropas de la Guardia Revolucionaria (recientemente calificada “organización terrorista” por los Estados Unidos) para proteger a Nicolás Maduro y la caída de su régimen.

La aceptación por parte de Venezuela, sumado a la reciente llegada de militares y armamento ruso, replica la alianza que mantuvo en el poder a Assad e hizo la guerra a su propio pueblo.

Shimon Samuels, destacó la oportunidad del ofrecimiento de Irán. “El anuncio, a pocos días de haberse reanudado los vuelos entre Teherán y Caracas, conocidos por ser utilizados como vía de transporte de armas, terrorismo y narcotráfico, eleva el nivel de conflicto de todo el hemisferio occidental, llamando a la acción para prevenir que Venezuela no se convierta en la Siria latina”

“El llamativo silencio de todos aquellos que sostienen a Maduro ante la ya existente presencia cubana, la reciente llegada de  militares rusos y el anuncio de oferta de Irán, es la aceptación de una intervención extranjeras en el territorio de América Latina.”, enfatizó Ariel Gelblung.

“La OEA debe actuar para prevenir el transplante de Medio Oriente a las Américas”, concluyeron los funcionarios.
